On November 22, 2014, Octagon:Creative Exploration, founded by Marly Milena, held its first topical program dealing with the issue of Climate Change. Participants were assigned different positions on this subject, and were then asked to build objects to represent feelings surrounding their assigned position.
Participants were instructed that the assigned position may have nothing to do with their true beliefs, and that they did not need to be eloquent or fluent in English to participate. The purpose of this workshop was to have everyone explore this complex issue from different perspectives, and to use the building tools in Second Life as a vehicle for expressing the feelings that their assigned position brought up in them. The goal was NOT to come up with a solution to the problem, but to apply an educational model to the problem in an attempt to engage different kinds of learning and experience. Everyone was asked to look at their position as objectively as possible.
Those who want to explore this further can use the landmark provided to view the information given on Climate Change and the positions assigned, and can view some of the builds that participants created. You can also contact Marly Milena or Francisco Koolhoven for information on upcoming programs.
