Midsummer Music Festival 2018 – Wednesday, July 18 starting at 8:30am Pacific Time

This is MIDSUMMER at its maddest! MUSIC at its finest! FESTIVAL as it’s meant to be.

This Midsummer Music Festival is all over the map. Not one space in your heart, mind and spirit will remain untouched – and if you can dance…I recommend you turn it up and bounce your body around your RL room. Inspiration Island starts it off at 8:30 AM SLT and passes the party on to ROMANY sim at 4 PM SLT!
And they will keep the party, puzzles, and fun going through Saturday!

Twirl to the classical, sway and sing along with the folk, get down with the rock and blues! We’re not just showing off our two regions, Inspiration Island and Romany, but we are showing off what SL music is and can be.

Cosmic Tara performs at Inspiration Island on Saturday evenings at 5:15pm SLT. She performs on piano and violin, and sings both popular tunes and her original music. She performs at the Music Cafe, located next to Brodmann’s Brain and the Towers of Invention.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM SLT ARI (Arisia Vita)
LOCATION: WBH Gazebo http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/79/136/22
Originally, Ari used the piano as protective cover in SL – to prevent being asked to dance. But he began to enjoy the feeling of “playing” the piano the way he’d always dreamed of doing. He worked hard to find the selections and performance styles closest to what he would play, if he could. He found that the music he “plays” delights and even has a healing effect on listeners. He performs on Inspiration Island at the Gazebo Mondays at 10 am.

Today, some of his selections are the original music of another Whole Brain Health member. Marly Milena, Founder of Octagon: Creative Exploration, has been a composer of songs, piano music and choral music for many years. She calls herself a creativist since she moves from one medium to another. Today you will be hearing a collection of her latest piano pieces animated by Ari and played in RL by Molly Lozeau , music director at her church.

9:30 AM – 10 AM SLT – KT – DJ and slides
LOCATION:  WBH Bayside Walk  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/47/182/22
KT came to the shores of Whole Brain Health to share his sand sculpture with us. We thought it should be an ongoing display and sharing, and he’s been here ever since. He’s also an SL DJ – and combines both these callings for us today. Relax, listen to the water lap the shore and let our sandman weave his magic

Winner of all kinds of SL awards as a musician, and winner of many hearts for her vivacious and generous spirit, she has been called the “Sim Killer” because so many want to hear her guitar, her wailing blues, her inspired rock and soulful renderings of acoustic hits – all of which she makes her own. Our sims are sturdier these days, but she’s still a force to be reckoned with and a wonderful introduction to the awesome power of live music in SL.

LOCATION:  Stranger’s Hobo Camp  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/76/193/701
This a man who knows the history of music and shares with us his favorites. He sings and plays folk songs, traditional tunes and early music on guitar, autoharp, mountain dulcimer, recorders, mandolin, and penny whistle. As “The One-Man Renaissance Band”, he creates layered, multi-track recordings of medieval and renaissance music: His love for the roots of folk music is viral – that is, it’s catching. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

LOCATION:  Multiple Intelligences Experience  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/34/36/22
Mic is a multi-talented artist. His voice is versatile and expressive. He plays amazing guitar and wonderful keyboards. He sings and plays from the heart. He is well known for his originals and cover songs – old and new . He uses self- created sequenced backing tracks with harmonies for both originals and cover tunes, but also just as many acoustic songs. He is truly.. .Mr Multi.

LOCATION:  Keko’s Music Cafe  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/241/196/30
Most Wednesdays you will find Keko on Inspiration Island between 5:30 – 6:30 pm SLT playing his Native American Flutes. Typically his collection of flutes include ones he made, gifts from other generous SL residents or even one he purchased. Keko will frequently sprinkle the hour with a bit of didgeridoo, wind chimes, and drums. The mellow sounds of the flutes can be your guide into a relaxed state.

2 PM SLT – 3 PM SLT – SUNNY SZA (szavanna anatra)
LOCATION:  Sunvibes  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Inspiration%20Island/219/102/27

Originally from Hungary and now living in South Africa, the music she plays is a blend of many different cultures. Her home on Inspiration Island, Sunvibes, is filled with free fun, education, and useful gifts.
We are so pleased to have her with us again today.

SL15B: Once On a Blue Moon – Our Past, Our Present, Our Aspirations

Starting TODAY, June 17, at 12 noon SLT, the SL15B CRYSTAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION begins for a week!

We at Whole Brain Health have created an exciting exhibit for the SL 15th Birthday celebration.  The official name of the exhibit is “Whole Brain Health – Reflections on Our Evolution“, but to pay homage to our origins on the Blue Moon sim, we have given it the tagline “Once On a Blue Moon.”

We used the crystal theme throughout our build.  The exhibit has a foundation of five colored crystals, which represent the five pillars of whole brain health:  Self-care, Cognitive, Creativity, Social, and Purpose.  On the first level, Origins, we remember those who have partnered with us and influenced our development.  The second level, Programs, highlights what we currently are doing.  The top level, Aspirations, focuses on where we want to go in the future.

Please join in the celebration, and come visit us at the Whole Brain Health exhibit.

Premiere of Drax Files movie, “Our Digital Selves: My Avatar is me!”

Monday, May 21 marked the debut of the feature film “Our Digital Selves: My Avatar is me!”, created by Bernhard Drax. The grand opening was at the Accessibility Park Broadway Theater in Second Life, and the event was coordinated in SL by Krijon (Shyla the Super Gecko).

(see link below for full movie)

“Our Digital Selves: My Avatar is me!” tells the story of 13 global citizens and their avatars as they transcend their various disabilities through artistic expression and making a home in the VR Metaverse.

Filmmaker Bernhard Drax travels from California to rural South England to explore why a diverse group of people ranging from 24 to 92 years of age find solace, inspiration and deep friendship in a user-created digital wonderland that only exists inside their computers.

Drax sends his intrepid documentarian avatar Draxtor Despres into the virtual universes of Second Life as well as next generation VR platforms like High Fidelity and Sansar and – among many other adventures – he finds out why a 50-something Chicagoan feels best represented by a colorful gecko complete with superhero cape or why Cody LaScala – confined to a wheelchair his entire life – feels his avatar should look exactly like him.

The film follows researchers Tom Boellstorff and Donna Davis as they lead discussion groups and facilitate deep connections between real human beings in virtuality. We follow along as they travel to Silicon Valley to find out how the leading technologists design the future with disability in mind.

As Boellstorff and Davis finish up their 3-year study made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation [entitled “Virtual Worlds, Disability and New Cultures of the Embodied Self”], the film comes as a compressed compendium and visual guide to a seemingly unlimited array of possibilities for borderless human interaction.

Unique in its narrative approach, “Our Digital Selves” weaves together physical and virtual cinematography as the protagonists’ backstories are re-enacted via Machinima technique – real time animation – in the virtual world and in next generation VR platforms.
